- Aging Gracefully on a Budget: My Go-To Supplements
Before we dive into the supplements I take for aging gracefully, a quick disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist or a medical professional (although, I’ll admit, I’ve been known to self-diagnose a few of my issues – it often boils down to the question, “Do I have cancer?”). So please, consult a doctor or a certified expert before trying anything here. I’m just sharing what works for me – not prescribing. And for the record, don’t sue me! 😊
With that out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff – here’s a rundown of the supplements I take to support healthy aging and feel my best

Why Supplements?
At 44 years old, I’ve been on a mission to age gracefully without breaking the bank and have been taking the below vitamins or supplements for years. You’ll hear people say that food is our medicine and that all of these vitamins and nutrients should come from a healthy diet. But let’s be real here: how sustainable is that for us average folks? If I were a billionaire with a personal chef, maybe I could pull it off. But for now,
I find that supplements help fill the gaps in my diet and lifestyle.
While I’m not diving into hardcore biohacking just yet, I like to think of my routine as a simple, budget-friendly take on it. Biohacking can get pretty complex, but we’ll focus on easy, affordable ways that everyday people can incorporate it without emptying their wallets.
Many of these supplements help replenish what our bodies naturally produce when we’re younger, making them a great addition to my toolkit for aging gracefully.
Here are the vitamins and supplements I take.
1. Multivitamins (Alternative B Vitamin)
I used to take both a multivitamin and a separate B complex daily – until a nurse pointed out that my kidneys were likely working overtime to flush out the excess. Now, I alternate between a multivitamin and a B-complex every other day to maintain balance without overloading my system. Alternatively, you could opt for a supplement that combines both multivitamins and B vitamins in optimal amounts.
2. Vitamin D
Living in Minnesota, where winter feels like it lasts half the year, means I don’t get much sun. Vitamin D helps keep my mood stable, supports my bones, and plays a key role in aging gracefully without the seasonal blues. I used to assume my multivitamin covered my Vitamin D needs, but after a blood test revealed a deficiency, my doctor prescribed Vitamin D tablets. I take them regularly during the winter months and once or twice a week in the summer.
3. Omega-3s
Omega-3s are essential for heart health, brain function, and skin, especially since my diet doesn’t include much salmon. They also have anti-inflammatory benefits that support aging gracefully from the inside out. For those who are vegan, there are plant-based options available.
4. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
CoQ10 is an antioxidant that plays a role in energy production in cells. It’s naturally present in the body, but levels decline with age. I take CoQ10 because it supports energy, heart health, and overall vitality. Plus, it’s a great anti-aging supplement for your skin.
5. Probiotics
Gut health is everything! A happy gut means better digestion, stronger immunity, and even clearer skin – all crucial for aging gracefully in body and mind.
6. Liposomal Glutathione
Liposomal glutathione is a powerful antioxidant known for its anti-aging benefits, skin-brightening effects, and detoxification support. It also plays a key role in liver function. I’ve noticed that when I take it consistently, my skin looks brighter and feels more youthful. Since glutathione is difficult for the body to absorb, I take it first thing in the morning and wait 30 to 45 minutes before having coffee. I opt for the liposomal version, as it protects the supplement from degradation in the stomach and intestines, ensuring better absorption and bioavailability.
7. Liposomal Luteolin
I started taking liposomal luteolin recently in hopes of slowing down the graying of my hair. It’s too early to tell whether it’s working, but I’ve read some promising studies that suggest luteolin can help combat oxidative stress, which may impact hair color.
8. Liposomal NAD+
I first heard about NAD+ from biohacker Bryan Johnson, and it immediately caught my interest. This powerful molecule plays a key role in energy metabolism and cellular repair, with strong links to aging. Research suggests that supplementing with NAD+ may help combat age-related declines in energy and vitality. I’ve been taking it for a year now and have noticed a difference.
9. Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is a powerful adaptogenic herb known for its stress-relieving properties. It enhances mental clarity, reduces anxiety, and supports overall mental well-being. With the daily demands of life, I’ve found it invaluable for managing stress. After all, no matter how many “skin-glowing” supplements I take, if I don’t prioritize my mental health, the effects will inevitably show on my face – I learned that the hard way.
10. Collagen
Collagen is vital for skin elasticity, joint health, and overall youthful appearance. As we age, our body’s natural collagen production decreases. Supplementing with collagen helps improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and support joint function.
11. Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a polyphenol found in red wine, grapes, and certain berries. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and is believed to support longevity. I take resveratrol to help reduce oxidative stress and support healthy aging.
12. Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a powerhouse for skin hydration and joint health. It helps retain moisture, making the skin appear plumper, smoother, and more youthful. Additionally, it supports joint lubrication, which becomes increasingly important as we age. Since hydration is key to maintaining a youthful glow, this supplement is a must in my routine.
Final Thoughts
I’m not perfect with my routine – I aim for 5 to 6 days a week. But consistency matters more than perfection. Aging gracefully isn’t just about supplements; it’s about a balanced approach that includes diet, movement, self-care, and mindset.
At the end of the day, I take these supplements to help me feel my best and stay vibrant as I continue aging gracefully – without draining my bank account in the process.
