Let’s talk about something we all do but rarely think about – how we dry our faces. You might have a 10-step skincare routine with serums fancier than a five-star meal, but if you’re using the wrong towel, you could be undoing all that hard work!
What NOT to Use
Unless you like unwanted guests on your face!
❌ Regular Bath Towels – AKA Bacteria Hotels
I get it – grabbing the same towel you just used for your everything else seems convenient. But think about it: That towel has been hanging out in a damp bathroom, collecting bacteria like it’s Black Friday at a germ convention. Plus, it’s probably rubbed against your hair, body, and possibly (ew) your armpits. Do you really want all that on your face? Didn’t think so.
❌ Kitchen Paper Towels – Sandpaper in Disguise
I used to think kitchen paper towels were the perfect, sanitary solution for drying my face – easy, disposable, affordable, and no hassle. And for over a year, that’s exactly what I used. I was slathering on expensive serums and creams, but my skin wasn’t looking as “lively” as I hoped. It didn’t take long before I started questioning everything I was doing.
That’s when I learned something shocking: most kitchen paper towels contain chemicals like chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, dyes, and adhesives. Not exactly what you want seeping into your pores, right? Plus, they’re way too rough for delicate skin – like rubbing sandpaper on your face!
So, I made the switch. I stopped using paper towels on my face, and within less than a week, I saw a noticeable difference in my skin’s texture and glow.
Lesson learned: sometimes the simplest changes make the biggest impact.
What to Use? (The Best Way to Dry Your Face!)
Now that we know what not to do, let’s explore the best way to dry our face!
✅ Soft Microfiber Cloth – Your Face’s New BFF
These little wonders are ultra-gentle, highly absorbent, and reusable. I bought a set of 30, wash them regularly, and keep them in the bathroom for easy access right after I wash my face – no excuses! Just be sure to wash them often to keep them fresh and bacteria-free. These are actually baby washcloths, which makes them perfect for your face – what could be softer and gentler than a baby washcloth?

✅ Disposable Face Wipes – A Lazy or Busy Gal’s (or Guy’s) Dream
If you’re always on the go, opt for fragrance-free, skin-friendly disposable face wipes. They’re perfect for travel, gym bags, or those nights when washing your face feels like a marathon. I personally find them super convenient when traveling – they make it easy to keep my skin fresh and well cared for, no matter where I am.
The Bottom line
Your face works hard every day – so it’s time to give it the protection it deserves! Switching to a clean, gentle drying method can help reduce breakouts, minimize irritation, and leave your skin glowing, not groaning. Plus, you’ll ensure that the serums and moisturizers you apply go onto fresh, clean skin – rather than one covered in bacteria, germs, or chlorine bleach.
So, what’s your best way to dry your face? Are you still a secret bath towel user? (No judgment… okay, maybe just a little.) Drop a comment below!
