- Blockchain 101: A Beginner’s Guide
Most of you have probably heard about Bitcoin and NFTs – they’re built on a technology called blockchain. But what exactly is blockchain, and how did it all begin?
Dive into our Blockchain 101 blog, where we break it down in simple, easy-to-understand terms.
Blockchain – How Did It Start?
The origins of blockchain technology trace back to the late 1970s and 1980s, when computer scientists and cryptographers began developing the foundational ideas. However, the first real-world application of blockchain came in 2009 with the launch of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency.
But What is Blockchain?
Whenever I try to understand a seemingly complex term or technology, I simplify it as if I’m explaining it to a 5-year-old or it could be that I have an attention span of a 5 year old! This approach helps me retain the information better. So, let’s do just that.
Explaining Blockchain to a 5-Year-Old
Imagine you’re playing a game of tag with your friends, and you keep a list of who’s “it” each round in a notebook. Everyone can see the notebook, and if someone tries to cheat and say they weren’t tagged, the notebook tells the truth.
Blockchain is like that notebook. It keeps a secure, shared record of important things – like who owns money, digital art, or other assets and everyone agrees on what’s in it.
Simple, right?
Taking It to the Next Level
Now, let’s get a bit fancier. Imagine you’re not just tracking tag players but recording the history of trades for rare collectibles – like a signed baseball card or a special comic book. The blockchain does something similar for digital items, but instead of physical cards or comics, it records transactions, like who owns what cryptocurrency, NFTs, or other digital assets.
What makes Blockchain Special?
What Exactly Is Blockchain Technology?
It might sound fancy, but blockchain is quite simple once you break it down.
