  5. Lost 20 Pounds in 1 Week – But Not in the Way You Think

Now, I know what you’re thinking – 20 pounds in 1 week? That sounds too good to be true, right? Well, let me set the record straight – there’s no magic diet or extreme training involved. This is all about my Level Up in 30 Days challenge, where I’m pushing myself to be the best version of me, inside and out.

But I’m not talking about physical weight – I’m talking about the invisible, stubborn mental weight I’ve been carrying around for far too long.

And let me tell you, shedding that weight felt just as liberating, if not more, than dropping actual pounds.

The Heavy Burden of Mental Weight

Mental weight isn’t measured on a scale, but you feel it just as much – the stress weighing on your shoulders, the anxiety cluttering your mind, and the self-doubt dragging you down. So, did I really lose 20 pounds in 1 week, or just 1? Honestly, I can’t say for sure. But saying 20 pounds in one week feels dramatic – maybe even a little false motivation for myself. And sometimes, that’s exactly what I need to keep going.

What is Mental Weight?

It’s the weight of overthinking, worrying about the future, and carrying past regrets like a backpack full of rocks.

Sound familiar?

For years, I unknowingly carried around mental baggage, letting it pile up until it felt suffocating. But one week ago, I made a choice – I was going to lighten my load, whether that meant losing 20 pounds in one week or just 2 pounds in 10 days. Every small step matters, and this journey is about more than just weight – it’s about freeing my mind, too.

My Simple but Effective Approach

So, how did I do it? It wasn’t through a magic potion or a quick-fix solution. It was a combination of intentional habits and small, daily efforts that started making a huge difference.

1. Practicing Mindfulness and Meditation Daily

I started setting aside just 10 minutes a day to sit in silence, focus on my breath, and bring awareness to the present moment. Meditation helped me observe my thoughts without getting lost in them. It was like decluttering my mind – one deep breath at a time.

2. Getting a Natural Boost with Herbal Supplements

I also incorporated ashwagandha and lion’s mane into my routine. These herbs are known for reducing stress, enhancing focus, and promoting a sense of calm. While they’re not a cure-all, they’ve been game-changers in helping me feel more balanced and less overwhelmed.

3. Letting Go of What I Can’t Control

This was a big one. I used to waste so much energy stressing over things I couldn’t control – other people’s opinions, unexpected challenges, and imaginary problems that never even happened. But once I started consciously letting go, I felt an instant sense of lightness – both mentally and emotionally. And after losing 20 pounds in 1 week, I realized that true weight loss isn’t just physical; it’s about shedding the mental burdens too. I learned this through my journey into Stoicism, inspired by The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan Holiday, which emphasizes accepting what we can’t control and focusing on what we can.

4. Prioritizing Rest and Sleep

Mental exhaustion is real, and I never fully appreciated how much sleep impacts my mood and stress levels. So, I committed to better sleep habits – shutting off screens earlier, establishing a bedtime routine, and most importantly, letting myself rest without guilt. Along the way, I also learned to prioritize self-care unapologetically.

The Journey Isn’t Over

This is just the beginning. I might have lost 20 pounds in 1 week, but there’s still plenty of mental weight to shed—it’s an ongoing journey. And let’s be real, I could gain it all back if I don’t stay disciplined. But even in this short time, I feel lighter, freer, and more in control of my mind than I have in years.

So now, I ask you:

How much mental weight are you carrying? And how much are you willing to let go?

If you’ve been feeling bogged down, overwhelmed, or stuck in your thoughts, maybe it’s time to start your own mental weight-loss journey. And trust me – losing this kind of weight feels better than any number on the scale ever could.
